In the morning, we’ll pick you up from your hotel in Marrakech and set off toward the heart of the desert. The journey itself is a spectacular introduction to Morocco’s diverse landscapes: winding through the Tizi N’Tichka pass in the Atlas Mountains with its striking red rocks, passing the town of Tazenakht known for its handmade rugs, and encountering charming traditional villages along the way.
We’ll stop for lunch en route before reaching Foum Zguid, often called the “gateway to the desert.” Here, you can enjoy a traditional mint tea, choose a protective turban (chéche) against sun, wind, and sand, and embrace the nomadic lifestyle for the first time.
From Foum Zguid, we continue on a rugged 4x4 track leading to our first desert camp. The rocky trail traverses dramatic landscapes—from plateau-like mountains to the vast plains of the dried-up Iriki Lake. By late afternoon, we arrive at Erg El M’hazil, the first majestic dunes of the Sahara. Climb to the top of the dunes to witness a stunning sunset, followed by a delicious tagine prepared by our chef.
As night falls, gather around the campfire to stargaze and listen to stories from our nomad guides, sharing their desert life and experiences. Sleep comfortably in spacious tents with cozy beds, fully immersed in the magic of the Sahara.
After breakfast under the open sky, we set off by 4x4 toward our next destination. We cross the flat, cracked plains of the dried Iriki Lake, where traces of salt from the ancient lake still glimmer in the sunlight.
Next, we reach the towering dunes of Erg Chegaga—approximately 18 km from Erg El M’hazil. Take time to relax and settle into one of the large, comfortable tents at the camp. Explore the surrounding dunes and enjoy the spectacular views of Morocco’s highest dune, perfect for photography. At sunset, embark on a camel ride to gain a new perspective as the desert glows in shades of red and orange.
Evening brings a traditional Moroccan meal and music around the campfire, where the rhythm of derboukas echoes across the dunes. End the day with a peaceful night under the desert sky.
Wake early to watch the sunrise over the dunes and the distant Djebel Bani mountains—a serene moment of reflection to start the day.
After breakfast, we begin the journey back through the lush Drâa Valley. Stop first at M’Hamid El Ghizlane, a small desert town, then continue toward Marrakech, passing through the beautiful oases of Zagora, Tamegroute, and Agdz. At Tamegroute, visit the famous green-glazed pottery workshops, a living heritage of the region. Lunch is served along the way in one of the valley towns.
Finally, we travel through Ouarzazate and the Tizi N’Tichka pass, returning to Marrakech. We’ll drop you off at your hotel, completing your unforgettable desert adventure.
